Tips On Buying  Fish

When I first started the aquarium hobby, I was not successful; when ever I buy some new fish they sometime get diseases or they die.

Here are some tips on adding new fish to your aquarium:

1. While you are at the pet store check the fishes if its active (note: some fish are shy), has no weird spots or something is weird on it and if you see an aquarium in a pet store that a fish is infested with disease and another fish isn’t don’t buy from that aquarium, find another aquarium to buy from.

2. Put your fish into a quarantine tank for 24-72 Hours. Then check for diseases after 48 hours and their appetite if they eat anything (please note that some are shy).  After you know the fish is healthy, you can add them to your main aquarium.

3.    Your main and quarantine aquarium should be the same and steady temperature of 26-28 C (78-82.4F). Unsteady temperature could lead to stress or fatal. So keep the temperature steady. Keeping the water parameter steady is another thing on buying new fish. Your PH should be around 7.0-7.6PH.

4.    When transport the fish to your home aquarium from the pet store please ask the pet store if they have any fish box that use to ship it to the pet store or if they don’t have any ask them for a double layer bag. (Applies during Winter) During the summer when buying fish drive home immediately because the water temperature in the bag could rise.

5.    When you get home float the bag for 15-20 Minutes and then use a net get your fish out from the bag. Please do not add the water that the bag contains because it could contain bacteria that may harm your fish. But if you are setting a new aquarium add a little bit of water from the bag.
